WIP Wednesday

February 5th was my last post?  Wow!  I can't believe it's been that long.  Well, the absence has not been due to lack of quilting, that's for sure.  I had been having trouble with my computer constantly dropping internet connections and then finally it just crashed all together :(  I spent a while shopping for another and then trying to learn how to navigate through Windows 8.  Ha!  It took a little bit but I think I'm good to go now.

So, anyway!  Yes, I've been sewing.  I've had some good progress too.  I totally missed the "Lovely Year of Finishes" Feb. linkup though.  I soooo did not get to my goal and then with no computer, I had no way to join in for March.  Oh well, I still have lots of WIP's and will get back on track for the April link up.

I have had a lot of progress including a finish!  I've been keeping up with the Vise Versa BOM.  In fact, I find it hard to wait for the next month's block to be posted :) I am loving these blocks and can't wait to put them all together at the end.  Here are the blocks for March:

I also started a new project in the midst of all my WIP's.  I had a finish though so it's ok, right? ;) wink
I had won a giveaway months ago from Freckled Whimsy.  I won her Paradox pattern and a mini charm pack of the new Kona colors that were being released.  It took me a while to come up with a way to use those cute squares in a project.  At 2.5" each, I wasn't going to get anywhere with the charms alone.  I settled on making some log cabins and used the solid charms as the center of each block.  I used this tutorial from Red Pepper Quilts.  I love them :)

As a lot of other people jumped on the "Economy Block" wagon, I too joined in.  I like them but I'm done.  I wasn't really wanting to make an entire lap quilt out of them so I decided to end it at a wall hanging.

The fussy cut squares are from an I-spy charm swap from last year and the rest is all from my stash. It finishes at 32" square.  Perfect for a wall in my sewing room :)  I think I had it stippled and the binding sewn on in an hour. I'm getting faster with my FMQing and am ready to move on to another design.

I also basted another quilt top and will start quilting that today. It is another I-spy meant for one of my boys so I thought I should get it done before they get too big! Hope to be sharing that one soon.

"Bee Sew Modern" Quilt Top Finish

My last Bee group of 2013 was "Bee Sew Modern" and ended back in September.  I chose the wonky pinwheel block by Greenleaf Goods.  You can go here  for her tutorial. I just love her finished quilt!  I changed the block size so I could get a little bit bigger finished quilt.  I had everyone use 5" background squares instead of 3.5" that was called for in the tutorial.  The block ended up being 18.5" unfinished. Here is mine:

And here is the finished quilt:

I really need to get busy and quilt some of my finished tops.  I'm getting too many of them :)  This one was suppose to be a Christmas present!  Obviously it didn't get to that point since I was sick so I have decided it will be my February goal for "A lovely Year of Finishes".  I hope to get it quilted and bound before the end of the month.  Wish me luck :)

Summer Solstice Quilt Top Finish

As I mentioned before, I have been pattern testing for Marelize from Stitch By Stitch.  That cute little stack of Union Station by Denyse Schmidt has finally become a quilt top.  I love it!

I hope my fabric selection has done the pattern justice. I wanted the  fabric placement to help set the two blocks apart so not to get lost.  The unity of the solid corners helps with this as well.  Don't you just love it when it comes out as you planned? :)

This pattern has not been released yet as Marelize was waiting on me and her other pattern testers to get our feedback.  I will post a link for you when it goes up for sale.

*edit*

Marelize now has her pattern listed in her Crafsty shop!!  Please go here to purchase :)

Sunday Stash

This weeks stash pick  is one I should have posted months ago.  I won this bundle way back at the end of September. Amy @ Diary of A Quilter had a sponsored giveaway from Connecting Threads.  I have always wanted to try out their fabric and thread.  They have such pretty collections at great prices as well as cute quit kits.

This collection is called "Heather's Garden".  I chose it from the 3 that were offered since they are the colors in my home.  I'm not sure what I'm going to make yet but I am anxious to sew with it.  Maybe something for our bed.  We have had the same quilt for the last 6 years--time for a change :)  Any suggestions?

Thank you to Amy and her sponsor for such a generous giveaway.  I love it!

Dancing Stars...

I finally finished up my "Dancing Stars" top last week.  Phew!!  And taking a photo was another story.  Between not having any help and the weather not cooperating, I thought I wasn't going to get a picture.  It has been too windy and rainy for anything outside.  I finally gave up and tacked it to the barn wall this morning. It'll do :)

If you follow me, you have seen my progress of  this QAL, which started last January by Amy Ellis of Amy's Creative Side.  You can still download the pattern from Craftsy here.  I chose the lap/throw size which has 98 stars all foundation pieced and measures about 60" x 68".  A nice size throw.  Fabrics I used were charms from several rounds of rainbow charm swaps on Flickr as well as gray and white from Joanns line of Kona solids.

As this was my January goal for "A Lovely Year of Finishes", I'm glad to get it checked off my list! :)

W.I.P Wednesday

There is a lot of works in progress over here but it's always that way, isn't it? Mine seem to be in more that one area though :)  From the bathrooms to my quilt blocks to a pile of wood in the garage that is waiting to be turned into a TV stand.  I just keep plugging away a little bit here and there.  The bathrooms are close and I can't wait to share before and after photos!!
Up first is my blocks from the "Vise Versa" BOM by Gen X Quilters.  It just started this month but if you are interested, you can join in anytime.  Go here for information on purchasing the monthly subscription.

I've also gotten back into some crocheting.  I have several scarf and cowl patterns on Pinterest, so after a yarn shopping spree a couple of weeks ago, I started a project :)  You can view my crochet board here.
I love this pattern so far.  No counting or trying to remember what row to do what--just mindless crochet.  I love that.

Here is a close up of the stitch.

Sunday Stash

Starting a new project can be so fun.  Especially choosing fabric! :)  This stack will be for the 2014 Block of the Month "Vise Versa" @ Gen X Quilters.  Aren't they pretty?
Picking a color scheme this time around actually was hard for me.  I think it was the solids that threw me.  I have never made a quilt with only solids before.  Too many to choose from!  And too many possible combos.  Until I saw the prints above.  Loved them!  So I went from there.  I will be using those on the back which will be another first for me---a pieced back.  I know, I'm behind the times! :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
